With German Precision, Kaymer Captures Crown
Martin Kaymer's first major win at Whistling Straits is probably his most precious memory in his young PGA career, but the last day in Wisconsin may be remembered by some as Dustin Johnson's biggest gaffe. Johnson, who had already blown a three stroke lead in the final day at the U.S. Open earlier this year, was leading by one stroke in round four. Then, he mistakenly grounded his club in a bunker on the 18th hole that cost him a 2 stroke penalty. Instead of being in a three way playoff for the title, he had to walk away with a 5th place finish.
Kaymer defeated Bubba Watson in a three hole aggregate playoff to capture the Wanamaker trophy. The 25 year old German, who has only been a pro for 4 years, shot a 2 under 70 to finish at 11 under 277 to get into the playoff with Watson. His swing is outstanding. This month's tip will help you emulate what Kaymer does so well. During the television broadcast they played a slow motion swing of Kaymer. I noticed no lateral motion with his body during his swing. This makes it much easier to hit the ball straight. To practice this, hit a dozen shots with your feet together before your round. You can't swing very hard, but you'll feel how your body must rotate when swinging.
