Tip Of The Month

Mike Taylor, swing coach to 2009 U.S. Open Winner, Lucas Glover, says the champ doesn't like high tech stuff like videos and training gadgets;  not even talking about angles and swing planes. He prefers doing it the old fashioned way, on feel. Apparently, what works for Lucas is finding the feel of what works. Taylor explained Lucas' confidence in the "feel system" with  this explanation. "It clicked for him ...Lucas came off the course talking about an 8 iron he hit with a perfect trajectory and how it really felt good. I knew he was going to win soon." Taylor continued his dissertation with this thought," one way to get him to feel a better swing plane is to start with more level shoulders at address. We also practiced hitting shots from downhill lies so he could feel like he was more on top of the ball down through impact. His left shoulder lower through impact."

I personally endorse this as an excellent way to get the feeling at impact of more weight on the left foot, hands forward of the ball, and the right heel slightly off the ground. If you can't find a place to hit downhill lies, try a practice swing on the side of a tee box. Or off a flat spot get the same effect by beginning the swing with the right heel slightly raised.

It works for the U.S. Open Winner. It's a positive thought that could work for you. Like taking chicken soup for a cold, if it doesn't help it can't hurt.
