Tip Of The Month

Addressing the ball correctly is critical in good club-ball contact. Many golfers overlook this important fundamental in their rushed attempt to hit the ball. There is no way to hit solid iron shots consistently if your hands do not lead the club head into the ball. That’s the ideal position, and most of you are not getting there.
One reason is a faulty shaft angle at address, meaning the hands are set behind the club- face rather than leading the club- face. Setting the hands behind the club face causes mis-hits. Tilting the shaft toward the target at address will go a long way toward helping you hit it pure shots.
This month’s tip tells you how to address the ball for solid contact. Take your grip, address the ball, then push your hands toward the target so the butt of the club points just in front of your belt buckle. Make sure to keep the leading edge of the club face square to the target line. You should feel a more powerful hit as this puts the club in a “trapping” position. This will feel new to the many golfers used to setting the shaft back and swinging up on the ball to get it airborne. Trapping , or pinching the ball between club face and turf, allows you to create back spin and the desired trajectory for your shot.
