Tip Of The Month

In my January 2010 Tip, I wrote of my trip to Las Vegas for a visit with golf’s #1 teacher, Butch Harmon, and related to you three of Butch’s secrets to a great swing. The information was so well received that I am presenting three more of Butch Harmon’s valuable ideas for this month.
1) The key to making a proper shift into your right leg as you swing back is to maintain some flex in your right knee. Keeping the knee flexed also will put you in a tighter body coil at the top, so you can fire into the ball with more speed. It’s like loading and releasing a spring.
2) Extend and rotate your hands and arms after impact. This allows the club head to continue accelerating through the ball for maximum club-head speed. Butch says “You want to shake hands with the target”.
3) As you finish your swing your back foot (my right) should be perpendicular to the ground. All of your weight should be on your front foot so that you can easily lift your back foot without repositioning. You should be able to tap your toe when watch your shot fly down the fairway.
